Glee co-stars Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison discussed gay rights on the red carpet of the Los Angeles premier of 8, a play based on the trial over the constitutionality of California's gay marriage ban, Proposition 8.

8, which was written by Milk scribe Dustin Lance Black, raised more than $2 million in its Los Angeles premier, more than double what it raised during its Broadway premier. (Watch the reading here.)

In the reading, Lynch portrayed Maggie Gallagher, the former chairwoman of the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), while Morrison played plaintiff Paul Katami, the partner of Jeff Zarrillo.

Colfer played Ryan Kendall, a young man who testified during the trial on his experience being sent by his parents to “reparative therapy” as a teenager.

In an interview with OnTheRedCarpet.com, Colfer, who is openly gay and 21, said he's ready to marry.

“As I get older, I just want a ring on my finger. I can't explain it. I don't know if it's a wedding ring, or maybe it's a promise ring of some kind. But I definitely want a ring somehow.”

Lynch said she found Gallagher's arguments for opposing gay marriage “without empathy and without wisdom.”

She added that she wants her 2010 Massachusetts marriage to Dr. Lara Embry to be fully recognized.

“My marriage is not recognized. I want that, and I want that for other people,” Lynch said.

Morrison said he had no hesitation in joining the cast of 8.

“It was a beautiful day, and I'm so happy I could be a part of it,” he said.
