Adam Lambert Bests Lady Gaga In Entertainer Of The Year Contest
Rocker Adam Lambert was named Entertainer of the Year 2010 by UK music website FleckingRecords.co.uk.
“Mr. Lambert received a staggering number of votes,” the website wrote in announcing the winner, “it just goes to show how strong his 'small' fanbase are, and what a truly talented entertainer he is.”
Singer Lady Gaga, a strong advocate for repeal of the military's ban on open gay service, claimed the number three spot, while UK boyband McFly was the runner-up.
Many in the entertainment industry caution gay performers to remain closeted. But coming out gay on a 2009 cover of Rolling Stone appears to have aided Lambert's career. The up-and-coming rock star took his Glam Nation Tour for a worldwide spin this year, drawing large crowds at every performance. In Malaysia, the tour met with protesters, who decried the singer's show as promoting “gay culture,” a claim Lambert has denied. His Whataya Want From Me single is nominated for a Grammy. And the American Idol season 8 runner-up is already thinking about his second studio album.
