Nick Jonas is starting a new campaign on Twitter: #NickonIdol. The JoBro was rumored to be in the running for a gig alongside Mariah Carey on the next season of American Idol, and turns out the buzz is true!
"The rumors are true … I am being considered to be a judge on American Idol," Jonas tweeted Saturday, just a day after the first word spread of the possibility. "And it would be a dream come true if it happens. #nickonidol."
It sounds like the 19-year-old star is definitely interested in the gig, and why wouldn't he be? Carey scored an $18 million paycheck for joining the judges' panel, and while Jonas is no Mimi, it's not like he wouldn't make a gigantic pile of money for his efforts. And, it's a chance to put himself — and his bros — back in the spotlight. The guys haven't put out an album since 2009, but are currently back in the studio with a new label. A regular spot on TV would give the band some much-needed exposure.
And, it would make sense for the folks at Fox to recruit a hot, young, male star with lots of hot, young brothers for the slot. Sources say execs hope Jonas would bring a younger demographic (read: "millions of tweens") back to the show. While he only has a fraction of Justin Bieber's 26 million Twitter followers, he does have over four million fans interested in his every move. Plus, he knows how to work the cameras thanks to his years of Disney TV experience, so he'd be a natural.
Stay tuned!
