They were part of The X Factor (UK) in 2012, Initially, they did not make it through the bootcamp stage. After Rough Copy left the show, their mentor judge Louis Walsh asked them to come back to the competition for Judges Houses and he added 19-year-old George Shelley to the group. They are said to be attracting a growing army of fans from right across the globe. Union J was formed in September 2012. As a group, they finished fourth in the ninth series of The X Factor.

Members are Jaymi Hensley, Josh Cuthbert, George Shelley, and J.J. Hamblett.
This group was originally named Triple J but because of the inclusion of George Shelley during the The X Factor UK: Judges Home Visit 1 (2012) episode, renaming was inevitable.
J.J. Hamblett is the oldest member - born on 25 May 1988. 2nd is Jaymi Hensley who was born on 24 February 1990, 3rd is Josh Cuthbert who was born on 28 July 1992 and George Shelley is the youngest member of the band, who was born on 27 July 1993.
Louis Walsh is their manager.
They are signed to Sony Music Entertainment.
They were formed by judge Louis Walsh in 2012.
They have signed a major book deal with publishers Penguin. [April 2013].
Their debut single, Carry You, was released in June 2013 through RCA records. Their single peaked at number 6 in the United Kingdom.
