Jennette McCurdy is a writer/director who specializes in character-driven pieces that explore serious subject matter in a funny, offbeat way. Her favorite themes to explore are family dysfunction, childhood, and disillusionment. She has directed several short films which has been recognized by several film festivals including the Oscar-Qualifying Florida Film Festival.

She has three older brothers named Marcus, Dustin and Scott.
She has three dogs (Snoopy, Chewie and Musashi) and two turtles (Tootsen and Zeus).
She was inspired to become an actress by Harrison Ford after watching Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). She was fortunate enough to be able to act alongside her idol in Hollywood Homicide (2003).

She loves to figure skate in her spare time, and has been in a few figure skating competitions.
Her mother, Debra, battled recurrences of breast cancer, which first occurred in March 1996, and thought cured after a bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy, breast surgery, and radiation sessions [June 2011], but she died on Sept. 20, 2013.

McCurdy confirmed in Feb. 2021 that she was done with acting and will now focus on writing and directing. She also admitted she regrets some of her most iconic roles and she's ashamed of them.

It was pouring rain, so the cast would huddle together in between takes and drink hot chocolate. Shooting that episode was such a great bonding experience.
